Renovation of the metal roofs of Wellesley College in the United States

Wellesley College is a private women's liberal arts college located in Wellesley, near Boston, in the state of Massachusetts, United States. It was founded in 1870 by Pauline and Henry Fowle Durant, with the mission to "provide an excellent liberal arts education to women who will make a difference in the world."

The metal roof of the gymnasium had to be renovated, and RD-Elastometal was selected. Besides the very good performance of the system, the fact that it uses a waterborne coating with very low VOC levels was decisive. This allowed avoiding dangerous solvents and odors during the job on the campus.

Surface preparation with a high-pressure cleaner. The objective is to remove the old layers that no longer adhere. The remaining paint is considered to have good adhesion.

A first coat of RD-Elastometal was applied on the joints between the steel sheets. This was followed by a coat over the entire surface.

A second coat of gray RD-Elastometal is applied. UV-resistant, RD-Elastometal can be used as a finishing coat.

The application of two distinct shades between the first and second coat allows applicators to clearly distinguish the layers and apply the recommended amounts everywhere.
